$2.3M settlement in priest sex abuse lawsuit

CHICAGO (AP) — Attorneys have announced a $2.3 million settlement with the Archdiocese of Chicago in a lawsuit involving a man claiming he was sexually abused by a former priest.

Attorneys Jeff Anderson and Marc Pearlman announced the settlement Tuesday. The lawsuit doesn't identify the victim, but says he is now in his early 20s and was abused by Daniel McCormack as a teenager. McCormack pleaded guilty in 2007 to abusing five children and served 2 1/2 years of a five-year sentence. He was removed from the priesthood.

The archdiocese settled a previous case involving McCormack for $3.2 million in 2011.

The archdiocese said in a Tuesday statement it remains committed resolving sexual abuse cases in a way that results in "prompt and fair" settlements for victims and their families.
