Dems Denied In Bid To Halt State's Open Primary

(Honolulu, HI) -- A bid by Hawaii Democrats to end the state's open primary system is being turn down by a federal judge. Democrats tried to argue the open system violates the First Amendment right to free association. But a U.S. District Judge ruled the party didn't do enough to prove the open primary places a "severe burden" on the free-association rights of political parties.
