(Honolulu, HI) -- Hundreds of Hawaii homeowners facing foreclosure may have been the victims of a mortgage scam based on the mainland. Hawaii's Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs says an investigation has found those homeowners were likely misled by a loan modification program operated by a Florida corporation in 2009 and 2010. That company is believed to wrongly taken over one-point-five-million dollars from Hawaii consumers. Officials say over 500 Hawaii homeowners may have claims against the company. Residents can contact the Officer of Consumer Protection to determine if they have a claim.
