Hilo Woman In Coma After Wisdom Teeth Extraction

(Hilo, HI) -- A Hilo woman is now on life support after she went to the dentist to have some teeth extracted, and never woke up. Kristen Tavares' boyfriend tells "Hawaii News Now" she dropped the 23-year-old mother of two off at the dentist office Monday because Tavares was having her wisdom teeth pulled. Tavares apparently went into cardiac arrest while she was under anesthetic, and she's now in a coma at Maui Medical Center. The dentist that was doing the procedure isn't talking, and county police have yet to take up the case. It's the second time in three months there's been a dental tragedy in the state of Hawaii. Three-year-old Finlay Boyle died in January, one month after he went into a coma during a dental procedure on Oahu.
