Duties and Responsibilities:


Salem Media of Hawaii is looking for a dynamic Promotions Director that will make a full contribution to the success of the Marketing/Promotion, Programming and Sales Departments by being an effective team member; execute station promotions from inception to completion; assist and coordinate general Marketing and Promotion Department functions in a timely manner; coordinate our Half Price Deal internet mall program; coordinate our internship program; and assist by working directly with our Web Developer to insure our web content is accurate and up-to-date.

Promotion Director will work alongside the Director of Sales and also manage the part-time Promotions Assistant. Daily activity will include, but not be limited to: writing proposals and copy, event and promotional planning and execution, creating contesting, actively seeking promotional partnerships, managing and recruiting for our internship program, auditing station websites and communicating necessary changes directly to the Web Developer, as well as various administrative duties. This position involves evening and weekend responsibilities as necessary.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Experience in planning and executing promotional events
  • Creative, ambitious, energetic, competitive leader with the ability to develop and motivate staff is a must
  • Organized individual with the ability to multi-task in a fast paced work environment
  • Strong computer skills required including copy writing, web development, and photo editing and presentation design
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Proven success track record with a minimum of 4-5 years of experience in the radio broadcast industry

Radio Broadcasting Engineer

Salem Media of Hawaii is seeking a Radio Broadcasting Engineer for its 7-station cluster to perform the following tasks:


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Monitor the overall technical operation of the stations to insure compliance with FCC, Federal, EPA, OSHA, State and local regulations
  • Assist with the installation, maintenance and legal operation of all audio, electronic and broadcast transmitting equipment necessary for the stations to function
  • Oversee all station studio and transmitter facilities and coordinate any maintenance or repairs with other building tenants
  • Instruct and assist operators in the proper operation of the station's broadcast equipment, FCC procedures and requirements, and any computer equipment necessary for the operators to perform their required duties
  • Readily demonstrate the ability and willingness to work with department heads to promote the company's interests and success
  • Maintain the public file and complete all applicable reports
  • Responsible to follow all Salem policies & procedures
  • Reports directly to the General Manager & Operations Manager
  • Strive to enhance the efficiency of the engineering and technical operation
  • Oversee remote broadcasts and personal appearances where electronic equipment is involved.

Skills and Qualifications:


  • High power AM/FM transmitter experience
  • SBE certification
  • 3 + years' experience preferred
  • Knowledge of ENCO automation system preferred
  • Valid driver's license required

Account Executive

Salem Media of Hawaii is seeking Full-time Account Executives with radio and/or media sales experience for a seven radio station cluster in the Hawaii market.

A Salem Communications Account Executive generates revenue by developing market potential through managing an account list, prospecting new accounts, lead generation, qualifying new opportunities and extending existing ones, proposing solutions to clients, providing reasonable and reliable projections, and closing sales.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Meets or exceeds established monthly, quarterly and annual sales goals
  • Identifies market potential by qualifying accounts
  • Initiates sales process by cold calling and prospecting, scheduling appointments, making initial presentation
  • Understands business needs, developing proposals, closing sales
  • Closes sales by building rapport with potential clients, expounding on the benefits of Salem's three radio properties in Minneapolis and other resources; overcoming objections, etc.
  • Expands sales in existing accounts by introducing additional solutions and services
  • Participates in all new revenue opportunities
  • Collects payments due to station
  • Contributes information to market strategy by monitoring competitive radio stations and other media products and reactions from clients
  • Participates in station promotional events, supporting each event as determined by management
  • Identifies client needs to be filled
  • Responsible for keeping commitments in a timely manner and resolving issues promptly
  • Accountable for customer satisfaction and providing high quality service in representing Salem Communications
  • Other duties as assigned from time to time

Skills and Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 5 years sales experience
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Outstanding communications skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interface with peers as well as executive level management

On-Air Host/Program Director

Salem Media of Hawaii is seeking an On-Air Host for its 107.9FM Kool Gold “Classic Hits” format and Program Director for two of its cluster stations (KKOL & KHCM-FM).

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Host a morning show on 107.9FM Kool Gold
  • Manage Quality Control for KKOL and KHCM-FM
  • Assist in keeping the stations in FCC compliance
  • Work closely with the Sales Manager to maximize station’s revenue potential

  • Coordinate and run remote broadcasts

Traffic/Sales Assistant

Salem Media of Hawaii is looking for a Full Time Traffic & Sales Assistant. We are looking for a professional, detail oriented individual who can multi-task and has exceptional organization and computer skills. The position will act as support to the Traffic and Sales Departments, as well as provide coverage for our Administrative Assistant/Front Desk when needed. The ideal candidate will have computer, people, organizational and multi-tasking skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with preparation of daily program logs and make sure all copy is entered for the next day’s broadcast in Wide Orbit
  • Complete affidavits for all SRN programming and Network programming
  • Prepare daily and weekly Net Revenue Reports
  • Generate Sales Reports/Sales Analyzer Reports for Account Executives and Sales Manager
  • Create sales presentations by compiling data; developing presentation formats and materials; creating and/or maintaining one-sheets and media kits
  • Responsible for supporting and assisting 8-12 Account Executives in the local office. Each AE requires a different level of support and assistance depending on his/her client needs
  • Assist Director of Sales with special projects as assigned
  • Perform general administrative duties including filing, faxing and copying and provide phone coverage for station as needed
  • Attend sales meetings, training sessions and client remotes as needed

Skills and Requirements:

  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Proficient in graphic design including Photo Shop, Publisher and Illustrator is a plus
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with quick turnaround times
  • Ability to work as a team with other departments and individuals
  • Data entry experience and attentional to detail is a must

The work schedule will be Monday thru Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Hourly Rate: $9.50-$11.50/hr. DOE with potential commissions and bonuses.
